
STORRS, Conn., June 25 (UPI) -- Long-time University of Connecticut women's basketball Coach Geno Auriemma has signed a five-year contract extension running through April 15, 2013.
He will be paid a $300,000 base salary in the first year, which will increase by $25,000 annually throughout the contract's life.
Auriemma also receives $1.1 million in the first year of the contract for speaking and media appearances and that amount will increase by $75,000 annually.
In 23 years at the Big East Conference school, he has a 657-122 record with four NCAA national championships (1995, 2000, 2002, 2003) and nine Final Four appearances, including the 2007-08 season.
"This new contract is a direct reflection of the university's commitment to me and the commitment that my family and I have to the university," Auriemma said.
The Naismith Memorial Basketball and Women's Basketball Hall of Fame member also has won 16 Big East regular season titles and 14 conference tournament crowns.
