NEW YORK, June 24 (UPI) -- Florida's Hanley Ramirez has taken over the top spot among National League shortstops in voting for a starting spot on the league's All-Star team.
Ramirez had 1,123,516 votes and was about 70,000 ahead of Houston's Miguel Tejada in voting for shortstop. Tejada had taken the lead from Ramirez in the third week of voting.
The next-closest race, based on figures supplied by Major League Baseball Tuesday, was for the third outfield position where Cincinnati's Ken Griffey Jr.'s lead was about 150,000 votes over Milwaukee's Ryan Braun.
Philadelphia second baseman Chase Utley leads all player in the voting, having amassed 2,179,006 votes. He owns a lead of more than 1 million votes over second place Mark DeRosa of Chicago.
But the Cubs are likely to be well-represented in the 79th All-Star Game, set for July 25 at New York's Yankee Stadium. Chicago outfielders Alfonso Soriano and Kosuke Fukudome and catcher Geovany Soto lead at their positions.
The other leaders are Atlanta third baseman Chipper Jones and Houston first baseman Lance Berkman.
Voting at mlb.com continues through July 2 and the team will be announced July 6.
