OAKLAND, Calif., June 22 (UPI) -- Justin Duchscherer hurled 7 2/3 strong innings Sunday to put Oakland in position for a 7-1 rout of the Florida Marlins.

Duchscherer (8-4) surrendered an earned run and six hits, while throwing 70 of his 105 pitches for strikes.

He got 11 outs on ground balls before relievers Andrew Brown and Chad Gaudin finished up.

His lone drawback was Jeremy Hermida's solo home run in the top of the first inning.

Oakland got two hits and two RBI from Emil Brown.

Three players had one RBI.

A run scored on Mike Rabelo's third inning passed ball and another scored when Carlos Gonzalez stole home in the bottom of the sixth.

Mark Ellis had three hits and two others had two hits for the Athletics, who have split their last four games.

Hermida and Mike Jacobs had two hits each for the Marlins, who lost twice in the three-game inter-league series.

The losing pitcher was starter Andrew Miller (5-6).
