
SAN DIEGO, June 22 (UPI) -- Marcus Thames hit a two-run homer in a three-run eighth inning Saturday to boost Detroit past San Diego 7-5.
Detroit trailed 5-4 when Jeff Larish hit a pinch RBI single to create a 5-5 tie and Thames followed with his two-run blast.
Detroit's Magglio Ordonez had two hits and two RBI.
Two others drove in one run while three players had two hits for the Tigers, have won 11 times in their last 14 games.
The winner was starter Nate Robertson (6-6).
Closer Todd Jones earned his 13th save this season with a 1-2-3 ninth.
San Diego's Marty Barrett hit a two-run second inning homer.
Edgar Gonzalez hit a two-run double in the fifth and Khalil Greene had one RBI.
Jody Gerut had three hits and Barrett had two hits for the Padres, who have dropped five of six.
Losing pitcher Cha Seung Baek (1-2) yielded six earned runs and eight hits in 6 1/3 innings with no walks and seven strikeouts.
