'S-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands, June 21 (UPI) -- Tamarine Tanasugarn won the women's Ordina Open in 's-Hertogenbosch, Netherlands, Saturday with a 7-5, 6-3 victory against Dinara Safina.

The veteran from Thailand was unseeded for the Wimbledon tune-up, but claimed her first-ever title on grass and first finals victory in five years.

The third-seeded Safina lost a chance to seize control of the match after she recorded the match's first service break in the ninth game of the first set, but Tanasugarn broke right back and won 10 of the set's last 12 points.

In the second set, Tanasugarn earned the critical break in the seventh game and after surviving a lengthy 16-point service game.

"Maybe it was more difficult for Dinara as she was seeded and playing really well lately," Tanasugarn said.

The 31-year-old Tanasugarn pocketed $28,000.

Safina, 22, dropped to 6-6 in career finals appearances.

At Wimbledon Monday, Safina faces Taipei's Yung-Jan Chan, while Tanasugarn meets Czech Petra Cetkovska.
