Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 20 (UPI) -- A three-run double by Ray Durham in the sixth inning broke open a tie game Friday and boosted San Francisco to a 9-4 win over Kansas City.
The Royals had a five-game winning streak snapped in the opener of a nine-game home stand.
With the score knotted at 4-4, San Francisco loaded the bases with two out in the sixth on a single by Jose Castillo and walks to Omar Vizquel and Fred Lewis.
Carlos Rosa then relieved Yasuhiko Yabuta (1-3) and faced Durham, who cleared the bases with a double to right on a 2-2 pitch. Durham then scored on a double by Randy Winn.
Matt Cain (4-5) settled down after a rough start to get the win. Kansas City scored four runs in the first three innings, but Cain survived eight frames while allowing only five hits and striking out eight.
