PITTSBURGH, June 20 (UPI) -- Doug Mientkiewicz raced home from third on a fielding error with nobody out in the 12th inning Friday, giving Pittsburgh a 1-0 win over Toronto.

The game was the first as Toronto manager for Cito Gaston, who took over when the Blue Jays fired John Gibbons earlier in the day. Coaches Marty Pevey, Ernie Whitt and Gary Denbo were also dismissed.

Gaston, who had an eight-year stint as Toronto manager in the 1990s, saw his first four pitchers give up seven hits over 11 innings. But Jesse Carlson (1-1) gave up a lead-off double to Mientkiewicz in the 12th that eventually cost the Blue Jays.

Toronto starter Roy Halladay left in the seventh after being hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of Nyjer Morgan. Team officials later said Halladay would be listed as day-to-day and was not expected to miss a start.

Mientkiewicz, after reaching on his double, moved to third on Jack Wilson's infield single. Raul Chavez walked to load the bases and Jason Michaels' grounder to shortstop glanced off the glove of John McDonald as the winning run scored.

Tyler Yates (3-0) worked the 11th and 12th to get the win.
