Sources: Rugby rape accuser a teenager

AUCKLAND, New Zealand, June 19 (UPI) -- The woman who has accused two British rugby players of raping her in a New Zealand hotel is an 18-year-old with a boyfriend, sources say.

A British rugby source alleged the teenager actually had consensual sex with both men and likely did not make the rape allegations until her boyfriend found out about her infidelity, The Daily Telegraph (Britain) said Thursday.

"It's not that surprising if a teenage lad gets upset when his girlfriend doesn't come home from a night out," the unidentified source said. "I'm confident that this is nothing more than a storm in a teacup."

Police are expected to interview the two rugby players, along with two other players who allegedly watched the sex act at a hotel in Auckland, New Zealand, Sunday morning.

The Telegraph said the 18-year-old's boyfriend reported the alleged rape to police Sunday, but the young woman has yet to file an official complaint.

Meanwhile, an unidentified doorman at an area bar told the Telegraph several British rugby players were acting rambunctious last Saturday night after losing 37-20 to New Zealand's All Blacks rugby team.
