MADRID, June 19 (UPI) -- The Fed Cup final between Russia and Spain will be contested in September in Madrid, organizers said Thursday.

The two-day, best-of-five series is scheduled for Sept. 13-14 at the Club de Campo de Madrid. Russia owns a 4-1 advantage in head-to-head matches with Spain.

The Russians will be trying to win a second consecutive Fed Cup title. They beat Italy in the final last year for their third championship in eight finals appearances.

Spain has won the Fed Cup five times and is in its 12th final.

The format has two singles matches the first day, a doubles match and reserve singles on the second.
