NEW YORK, June 17 (UPI) -- Houston's Miguel Tejada leads the All-Star voting among National League shortstops but his lead was cut in half in the last week.
Tejada has 894,797 votes in balloting to determine the position starters for the July 15 All-Star Game, totals provided by Major League Baseball show. But where his lead was about 125,000 votes last week, Florida's Hanley Ramirez has closed to within 68,000 votes and the Chicago Cubs' Ryan Therot is another 60,000 back.
Chicago players are either first or second in the voting at seven of the eight positions up for grabs.
Tejada teammate Lance Berkman leads at first base with the Cubs' Derrek Lee second. Philadelphia second baseman Chase Utley, with 1,743,548 votes, leads all NL vote-getters and is well ahead of Chicago's Mark DeRosa. Atlanta's Chipper Jones has a 564,000-vote lead over Chicago's Aramis Ramirez at third base.
Chicago's Geovany Soto leads in the voting for catcher. Cubs Alfonso Soriano and Kosuke Fukudome are the leaders for the three outfield positions, with Cincinnati's Ken Griffey Jr. in third.
Voting for the All-Star starting lineups continues through July 2.
