'S-HERTOGENBOSCH, Netherlands, June 16 (UPI) -- Ivan Ljubicic opened defense of his Ordina Open championship with a first-round victory Monday at the tennis tournament in the Netherlands.
The Ordina, a grass-court event, is the final tuneup before the Wimbledon Championships begin next Monday.
Ljubicic opened with a tough draw in local favorite Robin Haase but still advanced in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).
Eighth-seeded Fabrice Santoro was the only seeded player to lose Monday, dropping a 6-3, 6-1 decision to Juan Martin Del Potro.
Second-seeded Richard Gasquet defeated Olivier Rochus in his first-round match while seventh-seeded Guillermo Canas rallied for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 win over Mischa Zverev.
Arnaud Clement, Viktor Troicki, Marc Gicquel, Massimo Dell'Acqua, Marcel Granollers and Rohan Bopanna also recorded wins Monday. Bopanna claimed a 6-7 (8-10), 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 win over Martin Verkerk, another player from the Netherlands.
