NEW YORK, June 14 (UPI) -- Major League Baseball officials want to install instant replay by Aug. 1, a report said.
MLB officials approached the World Umpires Association requesting instant replay be used to review boundary calls, which would include whether a home run clears the outfield wall and if a potential home run is fair or foul, USA Today reported Friday.
General managers voted 25-5 last November in favor of exploring the possibility of using instant replay for boundary calls.
Management and the umpires would have to work out details like whether the call would originate from the umpires, a manager's request or by challenge, but no negotiations have been scheduled.
The report added that the league also is considering the possibility moving its central command center from New York, similar to the NHL's system in Toronto. No destination has been suggested.
"It's all premature," said major league spokesman Rich Levin. "Nothing has been decided yet."
