TORONTO, June 13 (UPI) -- Matt Stairs and Scott Rolen homered as part of a three-run third inning Friday and the Toronto Blue Jays held on to nip the Chicago Cubs 3-2.
Alex Rios doubled off Sean Gallagher (3-3) to open the third and Stairs followed with a home run to right, his eighth round-tripper of the season.
Rolen then hit a 2-2 pitch out to left for his third homer of the year.
Toronto starter A.J. Burnett (6-6) worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam in the first and lasted into the sixth inning. He gave up two runs on four hits and snapped a three-start winless streak.
Five relievers combined to hold the Cubs scoreless. B.J. Ryan picked up his 14th save.
Chicago reliever Scott Eyre, who worked the ninth inning, extended his franchise record by appearing in his 33rd straight game without allowing a run. The streak began last August.
