Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
CHICAGO, June 13 (UPI) -- A.J. Pierzynski's infield single drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning Friday, giving the Chicago White Sox a 5-4 victory over Colorado.
The White Sox struck for three runs in the seventh to halt a three-game losing streak. Chicago limited the Rockies to five hits, but four of them were home runs.
Matt Thornton (3-1) got the victory after recording the final two outs of the seventh. Bobby Jenks gave up a two-out single in the ninth before collecting his 16th save.
Jermaine Dye led off the Chicago seventh with a single and Nick Swisher walked to drive starter Jeff Francis out of the game. Eventual loser Matt Herges (2-3) then walked Joe Crede to load the bases and Juan Uribe singled home two runs.
A fielder's choice grounder forced Crede at third with Uribe going to second, and Uribe moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring on Pierzynski's infield hit.
Colorado got two solo homers from Ian Stewart and one each by Willy Taveras and Brad Hawpe.
