MLB: Pittsburgh 7, Washington 5

PITTSBURGH, June 12 (UPI) -- Ryan Duomit's fourth home run in the last three games helped the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Washington Nationals 7-5 Thursday.

Duomit's two-run blast in the bottom of the first inning off starting and losing pitcher Jason Bergmann (1-4) staked Pittsburgh to a 2-0 lead.

That lead grew to 6-1 before Washington scored three times in the top of the sixth to close to 6-4.

In the series, Duomit went 9-for-11 and knocked in seven runs. Thursday, he had two hits and three RBI. Four others, including winning pitcher Tom Gorzelanny (5-5), each drove in one run.

Washington's Christian Guzman had three hits and three RBI. Elijah Dukes had two hits and drove in the other two runs for the Nationals, who have lost six of seven.
