HALLE, Germany, June 12 (UPI) -- Top-ranked Roger Federer and No. 5-seeded Marcos Baghdatis each won Thursday and meet in the quarterfinals of the $1.12 million Gerry Weber Open in Germany.

Federer ran his Weber winning streak to 22 matches with a 7-5, 6-3 win over Jan Vacek. Federer didn't play in the Weber last year but won it four times from 2003-06.

Baghdatis was last year's runner-up. He earned a shot at Federer with a 6-4, 6-3 victory Thursday over Fabrice Santoro.

Local favorite Nicolas Kiefer came up with the upset of the day in second-round play, knocking off fourth-seeded Mikhail Youzhny, 6-2, 5-7, 7-3. Michael Llodra took a tough 7-6 (8-6), 7-6 (7-3) decision from Steve Darcis and will go against Kiefer in Friday's quarterfinals.

The other matches Friday have second-seeded James Blake meeting Andreas Beck and Philipp Kohlschreiber playing Robin Soderling.
