Robredo moves to Warsaw Open second round

WARSAW, Poland, June 10 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Tommy Robredo opened defense of his ATP Polish stop championship with a straight-set win Tuesday at the $670,000 Warsaw Open.

Robredo won the event in 2007 when it was contested in Sopot. His 7-5, 6-2 win Tuesday over wild-card entry Michal Przysiezny ran his winning streak to six matches in the event.

Top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko, who won the Sopot tournament in 2006, was also a solid victor Tuesday, dispatching Pablo Cuevas 6-3, 6-2. No. 3-seeded Juan Monaco polished off Jerzy Janowicz but fourth-seeded Gilles Simon was ousted in a three-set match 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 by Christophe Rochus.

The other seeded players on Tuesday's card played to form with No. 5-seeded Guillermo Canas beating Luis Horna 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4; seventh-seeded Marcel Granollers stopping Michal Mertinak 7-6 (7-2), 6-4; and No. 8-seeded Albert Montanes defeating David Skoch 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.

Also winning first-round matches Tuesday were Fabio Fognini, Oscar Hernandez, Wayne Odesnik and Santiago Ventura.
