WARSAW, Poland, June 10 (UPI) -- Second-seeded Tommy Robredo opened defense of his ATP Polish stop championship with a straight-set win Tuesday at the $670,000 Warsaw Open.

Top-seeded Nikolay Davydenko, who won the Sopot tournament in 2006, was also a solid victor Tuesday, dispatching Pablo Cuevas 6-3, 6-2. No. 3-seeded Juan Monaco polished off Jerzy Janowicz but fourth-seeded Gilles Simon was ousted in a three-set match 6-1, 3-6, 6-3 by Christophe Rochus.

The other seeded players on Tuesday's card played to form with No. 5-seeded Guillermo Canas beating Luis Horna 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4; seventh-seeded Marcel Granollers stopping Michal Mertinak 7-6 (7-2), 6-4; and No. 8-seeded Albert Montanes defeating David Skoch 7-6 (7-4), 6-4.
