CHICAGO, June 10 (UPI) -- Vinny Del Negro, who has never before been a coach, is expected to be introduced Wednesday as the head coach of the NBA's Chicago Bulls.
The Bulls have scheduled a news conference, apparently to make the formal announcement that Del Negro, 41, will take over from fired interim coach Jim Boylan. The Bulls were 24-32 under Boylan, who took over the team after coach Scott Skiles was fired Dec. 27.
Del Negro played 12 seasons in the NBA, averaging 9.1 points and 3.2 assists over 771 games. He played for Sacramento, San Antonio, Milwaukee, Golden State and Phoenix.
Most recently he was an assistant general manager of the Phoenix Suns.
The Bulls had trouble finding a coach. The Chicago Tribune said the team interviewed at least 13 candidates for the position.
