STOKE-ON-TRENT, England, June 9 (UPI) -- British soccer goalie Luke McCormick was facing drunken driving charges Monday after being involved in a car accident that killed two young brothers.
Authorities say Arron Peak, 10, and his brother Ben, 8, died Sunday when McCormick's Range Rover allegedly rear-ended a car driven by the boys' father, Phillip Peak, 37, sending it careening off a highway, down an embankment and into a stand of trees, The Times of London reported.
The accident happened on the M6 motorway near Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire in England's West Midlands. McCormick, 24, a goalie for the Plymouth Argyles team, makes a six-figure salary and was featured in a public safety campaign publicizing the dangers of driving while talking on cell phones, The Times said.
The newspaper reported that McCormick has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and drunken driving. The boys, from Birmingham, were described by their grieving mother as being happy and loving life, with the older boy especially fond of soccer. Their father was listed in serious condition with a broken back, neck and ribs, authorities said.
Police are appealing to the public for any witnesses to the accident, The Times reported.
