NEW YORK, June 7 (UPI) -- Johnny Damon's sixth hit Saturday, an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth, delivered the New York Yankees a 12-11 win over Kansas City.
It was the first time in 12 years a Yankee player has had six hits in a single contest. Gerald Williams had six hits against Baltimore May 1, 1996.
Damon drove in four runs. Three players had two RBI.
Melky Cabrera had a run and three hits. Jason Giambi, Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada all hit home runs and all three had two RBI for the Yankees, who have won three of four.
The winner was Mariano Rivera (2-1).
Kansas City's Jose Guillen knocked in seven runs with a two-run homer, an RBI single and a grand slam. Four other Royals had one RBI each, while Alberto Callaspo and David DeJesus both had two hits for the Royals, who have lost four of five and twice blew four-run leads.
The losing pitcher was Joakim Soria (0-1).
