Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24
NEW YORK, June 6 (UPI) -- Kyle Davies limited New York to a run over 6 2/3 innings Friday, allowing Kansas City to end an 11-game road losing streak by downing the Yankees 2-1.
Davies (2-0), who began the season with Class AAA Omaha, allowed seven hits and struck out three.
Ron Mahay struck out Jason Giambi with two on to end the New York eighth inning and Joakim Soria came on in the ninth to earn his 13th save.
The hard-luck loss went to Darrell Rasner (3-3), who gave up two runs on nine hits over eight innings.
David DeJesus singled in Kansas City's first run in the fifth and Jose Guillen scored in the sixth on a double-play grounder by Mark Teahen.
New York had won its previous two games.
Kansas City avoided equaling the franchise record for consecutive road losses, having dropped 12 in a row in both 1997 and 2006.
