MLB: Pittsburgh 14, St. Louis 4

ST. LOUIS, June 1 (UPI) -- Luis Rivas knocked in four runs Saturday and led the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 14-4 rout at St. Louis.

The veteran shortstop hit a grand slam homer in the top of the third inning and added a single and a walk.

Pittsburgh also got two-run homers from Ronny Paulino and Freddy Sanchez. Xavier Nady had three hits, one a three-run double in the first inning.

Paulino had three hits, three RBI and scored twice. Jose Bautista had two runs, four hits and one RBI while Nate McLouth had two runs, two hits and one RBI for the Pirates, who recorded season highs in both runs and hits.

The winner was Paul Maholm (3-5).

Three St. Louis players drove in one run apiece, including Troy Glaus, who hit a solo homer in the bottom of the second. A run scored on Rivas' eighth-inning throwing error and Albert Pujols had two hits for the Cardinals, who had won three in a row.

The losing pitcher was Mike Parisi (0-2).
