ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., May 31 (UPI) -- Scott Kazmir and five relievers combined to hurl a four-hit shutout Saturday when the Tampa Bay Rays beat the Chicago White Sox 2-0.
Kazmir (5-1) gave up three hits in seven innings with three walks and six strikeouts.
Before rookie Grant Balfour, a recent call-up from Triple-A Durham, earned his first major league save, Chicago got a hit off four previous relievers.
Tampa Bay's B.J. Upton had two hits and one RBI, and designated hitter Cliff Floyd had a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth.
Carl Crawford had two of the five hits for the surprising and AL East-leading Rays, who have won the last two contests in the four-game series.
Four players had one hit each for the White Sox, who have split their last four games.
Losing pitcher Javier Vazquez (5-4) surrendered two earned runs and five hits in seven innings with two walks and 10 strikeouts.
