MLB: Cincinnati 8, Atlanta 7 (10 innings)

CINCINNATI, May 31 (UPI) -- Jay Bruce's third hit, a solo homer in the bottom of the 10th, gave the Cincinnati Reds an 8-7 win Saturday over the Atlanta Braves.

The rookie centerfielder also scored three times and raised his batting average to .579. His winning hit made the 599th career homer by Ken Griffey Jr. even sweeter for the Reds.

Griffey blasted a two-run shot in the bottom of the first and added a sacrifice fly in the second. Brandon Phillips hit a solo homer in the first.

Edwin Encarnacion had two hits and one RBI. David Ross had one RBI while three players had two hits for the Reds, who have won six of eight.

The winner was closer Francisco Cordero (2-0).

Atlanta got Greg Norton's two-run homer, Mark Teixeira's three-run blast and Jeff Francoeur's solo homer in the seventh. Kelly Johnson had one RBI and was one of four players with two hits for the Braves, who have lost four of five.

The losing pitcher was Manny Acosta (3-2).
