CHICAGO, May 31 (UPI) -- Alfonso Soriano belted a two-run homer and knocked in three runs Saturday to lift the Chicago Cubs to a 5-4 victory against Colorado.
The homer, his 12th this season, came in the bottom of the second inning and he added an RBI single in the fourth, which produced the eventual winning run.
Winner Ryan Dempster and catcher Geovany Soto hit RBI doubles, and like Soriano, Soto had two hits for the National League East-leading Cubs, who extended their major league-best record to 35-21 with their seventh straight win.
Dempster (7-2) allowed three earned runs and three hits in five innings with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Carlos Marmol earned his third save.
Colorado scored on a two-run homer from Omar Quintanilla in the second and solo blasts by Todd Helton in the fifth and Scott Podsednik in the ninth.
The Rockies had only four hits in their fifth straight loss.
The losing pitcher was former Cub Glendon Rusch (1-3).
