CINCINNATI, May 30 (UPI) -- Brandon Phillips singled in Jay Bruce from second with nobody out in the 11th inning Friday, boosting the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-2 victory over Atlanta.
The game had been tied since the seventh, but the Reds wasted no time against Royce Ring (1-1), who came on in the 11th as the Braves' fifth pitcher of the game. Bruce singled on Ring's first pitch of the inning, moved to second on a single by Ken Griffey Jr., and came in when Phillips hit the first pitch he saw into left field.
The Braves have dropped four out of six.
Kent Mercker (1-0) pitched the top of the 11th to get the win.
Cincinnati took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on an RBI double by Bruce and a sacrifice fly by Phillips.
The Braves tied it in the seventh when Greg Norton raced home on a double-play grounder off the bat of Ruben Gotay.
