SAN DIEGO, May 29 (UPI) -- Jesus Flores hit a grand slam homer in the fourth Wednesday and Washington held on to defeat San Diego 6-4.
The Padres were prevented from recording what would have been their first three-game winning streak of the season.
Flores drove in the first runs of the game with his second homer of the season and Washington built a 6-1 lead before the Padres scored three times in the seventh -- two of the runs coming on Scott Hairston's homer.
Luis Ayala and Jon Rauch then combined to pitch 2 2/3 perfect innings, with Rauch picking up his 11th save.
The win went to Odalis Perez (2-4), who allowed three runs on six hits in 6 1/3. Hairston's homer came off Brian Sanches, who failed to retire a batter after relieving Perez in the seventh.
Shawn Estes (1-1) took the loss, surrendering the Flores home run and three other hits in five innings.
