CINCINNATI, May 29 (UPI) -- Phil Dumatrait turned in the longest outing of his career Thursday, helping Pittsburgh avoid a three-game sweep by downing Cincinnati 7-2.

Dumatrait (2-2) went seven innings and gave up only an unearned run on two hits. His nine strikeouts were also a personal best.

Jason Bay finished a three-run fourth with a two-run homer that gave the Pirates a 6-1 lead. Xavier Nady added a solo shot in the fifth. Pittsburgh has hit 18 home runs in its last 13 games.

The loss went to Aaron Harang (2-7), who gave up six runs on 10 hits in four innings. Harang was coming off his fourth career relief appearance, having been called upon during an 18-inning game against Cincinnati last Sunday. The Reds lost that one to San Diego 12-9.

Cincinnati had a nine-game home winning streak snapped.
