PARIS, May 28 (UPI) -- Three-time defending champion Rafael Nadal remained perfect at the French Open, taking a straight-set win in first-round play Wednesday at the Grand Slam event.

Nadal, whose match was suspended Tuesday after two games, took a set to get really going but was solid in a 7-5, 6-3, 6-1 win over Thomas Bellucci. That decision improved Nadal to 22-0 at Roland Garros. He next goes against 148th-ranked Nicolas Devilder.

Third-seeded Novak Djokovic, looking to build in his 2008 Australian Open win, had no trouble in a 6-1, 6-1, 6-3 rout of Miguel Angel Lopez in a second-round match. He is 15-1 in his last 16 Grand Slam event matches.

In other second-round matches involving highly-seeded players, 10th-seeded Andy Murray took out Jose Acasuso, 6-4, 6-0, 6-4, but 11th-seeded Tomas Berdych was upset by local favorite Michael Llodra, 6-3, 4-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

No. 18-seeded Paul-Henri Mathieu rallied from a two-set deficit for a 2-6, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 win over Oscar Hernandez and 19th-seeded Nicolas Almagro beat Sebastian Decoud, 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, 6-1, in second-round matches.

In first-round play, fifth-seeded David Ferrer swept out Steve Darcis, 6-3, 6-4, 6-3, but 23rd-seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero withdrew because of a leg injury despite leading Marcos Daniel, 7-6 (7-5), 2-2, at the time. No. 25-seeded Lleyton Hewitt stopped Nicolas Mahut, 6-4, 6-2, 6-4, in a first-rounder.
