It was the first of three straight contests against high-quality opposition for the Americans, who will take on Spain June 4 before returning to the United States to play Argentina June 8.

Most of the leading European teams are warming up for next month's EURO 2008, although England did not qualify for the prestigious tournament.

The Americans had won their previous two games in Europe against Poland and Switzerland.

Terry scored in the 38th minute and Gerrard added a tally in the 59th. Terry's goal came off a feed from superstar David Beckham.
