
SAN DIEGO, May 25 (UPI) -- Joey Votto staked Cincinnati to an early lead with a three-run homer in the second inning Saturday night and the Reds went on to beat San Diego 7-2.
Along with his 10th homer of the season, Votto also drove in a run with a third-inning groundout.
Brandon Philips had three hits and scored twice and Jerry Hairston Jr. drove in a run and scored once for the Reds, who have won two straight and eight of their last 12 games.
Bronson Arroyo (3-4) got the win for Cincinnati, going 6 1/3 innings and giving up two runs on six hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.
Bill Bray, David Weathers and Francisco Cordero held the Padres scoreless the rest of the way.
San Diego, which has lost six of its last eight games, scored two runs on Paul McAnulty's fourth-inning triple.
Padres' starter Wilfredo Ledezma (0-2) took the loss, lasting just three innings and giving up five runs on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
