Medina Garrigues repeats at Strasbourg

STRASBOURG, France, May 24 (UPI) -- Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain repeated as Strasbourg International champion Saturday, beating Slovenia's Katarina Srebotnik.

Medina Garrigues, the sixth seed, waited out a long rain delay in the second set and posted a 4-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 victory in Saturday's final to win this title for the third time in her career. She beat Amelie Mauresmo in 2007 and Marta Domachowska in 2005.

It was the eighth WTA singles title for Medina Garrigues, but her first this year. Her best previous 2008 finish was a loss to Gisela Dulko in the Morocco final this month.

Srebotnik, seeded fifth, fell to 4-6 lifetime in WTA singles finals. She has not won a title since 2005 in Stockholm.

Medina Garrigues is seeded 29th for the upcoming French Open and will meet Spanish qualifier Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez in the first round. Srebotnik is the 27th seed will meet Spain's Virginia Ruano Pascual in the opening round.
