DENVER, May 24 (UPI) -- Matt Holliday tied the game with a homer in the ninth and singled in the winning run in the 13th Friday, giving Colorado a 6-5 decision over the New York Mets.
The Rockies handed the Mets their fifth straight loss, a tough-to-take decision in a game New York seemed to have in hand going into the ninth.
Holliday hit a one-out homer in the ninth on the first pitch he saw from Billy Wagner to forge a 5-5 tie. The Rockies put the potential winning run on third base with one out later in the inning, but could not bring it home.
Twice in extra innings, the Mets put their leadoff batter on second with none out only to have the Rockies worked their way out of trouble.
With Aaron Heilman (0-1) on the mound to start the Colorado 13th, Jon Herrera singled to center and pinch-hitter Jeff Francis sacrificed Herrera to second. After Omar Quintanilla struck out, Holliday singled to right on an 0-1 pitch.
That made a winner out of Taylor Buchholz, who gave up two hits over the game's final three innings.
