SAN DIEGO, May 24 (UPI) -- Adam Dunn hit a leadoff homer in the ninth Friday, boosting the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-2 victory over San Diego.
Trevor Hoffman (0-3) came into the game for the Padres in a tie game and served up a 3-1 pitch to Dunn that the slugger deposited into the right field seats.
The Reds halted a four-game losing streak and San Diego lost for the seventh time in 10 outings.
Dunn's heroics made a winner out of David Weathers (2-3), who recorded the last out in the eighth. Francisco Cordero worked the ninth to earn his ninth save.
Jody Gerut doubled home the game's first run in the fifth to put San Diego in front, but Cincinnati took a 2-1 lead in the seventh when Dunn scored on a fielder's choice grounder by Paul Bako and Javier Valentin singled in Jerry Hairston.
San Diego tied it in its half of the seventh on an RBI double by Scott Hairston.
