VIRGINIA WATER, England, May 23 (UPI) -- Ireland's Paul McGinley Friday extended his lead to 4 strokes at the BMW PGA Championship in Virginia Water, England.
His closing eagle at the 18th hole completed a 6-under-par 66 round.
McGinley, the first-round leader, sits at 13-under 131, a tournament record through 36 holes.
"I was hoping to shoot 4 or 5-under just to try and make the cut, but to shoot 9-under here is fantastic and it is right up there with my best-ever rounds," he said. "To hold the course record at Wentworth Club is very special."
England's Miles Tunnicliff (65) shares second place at 9-under 135 with Sweden's Robert Karlsson (69).
Denmark's Soren Kjeldsen (65) joined England's Oliver Wilson (66) and Marcus Fraser (69) of Australia in fourth at 8-under 136.
Two-time defending champion Anders Hansen (69) of Denmark made the cut at even-par 144, good for 50th place.
