CASABLANCA, Morocco, May 22 (UPI) -- Australian Open finalist Jo-Wilfried Tsonga reached the semifinals Thursday at the Grand Prix Hassan II in Morocco.

Tsonga, the top seed in this event, recorded a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Santiago Ventura. That set up a meeting with qualifier Gilles Simon, who was a surprising 6-3, 6-2 winner over fourth-seeded Marc Gicquel.

The other semifinal in this French Open tune-up will send Agustin Calleri against Julien Benneteau.

Calleri did not have to play Thursday when his scheduled quarterfinal opponent Younes El Aynaoui withdrew with a calf injury. Benneteau was leading Oscar Hernandez 6-3, 5-2 when Hernandez retired.
