MIAMI, May 21 (UPI) -- Ricky Nolasco allowed three hits over seven innings Wednesday to carry Florida past Arizona and Brandon Webb 3-1.
Webb (9-1) had won all nine of his starts this season and pitched well enough to win this one, giving up three runs with seven strikeouts and no walks over seven innings.
He was trying to become the first pitcher in 23 years to win his first 10 starts. Nevertheless, he is only the sixth major leaguer since World War I to capture his first nine.
Nolasco (3-3) gave up one run and also struck out seven. Kevin Gregg worked a 1-2-3 ninth for his ninth save.
Luis Gonzalez tripled in a run and scored while Cody Ross added a homer for the Marlins. Florida had lost five out of six coming into this series, but will go for a three-game sweep Thursday.
