PITTSBURGH, May 18 (UPI) -- The Pittsburgh Penguins battered the Philadelphia Flyers 6-0 Sunday, advancing to the Stanley Cup playoffs for the first time since 1992.

Penguins' goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury recorded his third shutout of the 2008 playoffs, blocking 21 shots to help his team win the Eastern Conference title in five games.

Ryan Malone led the Penguins' attack with two goals and an assist. Marian Hossa added a goal and three assists.

Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal and Pascal Dupuis got the other Pittsburgh goals, and Sidney Crosby and Maxime Talbott each had two assists.

Pittsburgh scored all its goals on Flyers' goatender Martin Biron, who finished with 25 saves.

The Penguins, who won back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 1991 and 1992, will play either Detroit or Dallas for the cup. The Red Wings and Stars will meet Monday in Dallas for Game 6 of their Western Conference Finals, with Detroit leading the series 3-2.

Indy 500 field completed

INDIANAPOLIS, May 18 (UPI) -- Marty Roth captured the final spot Sunday during qualifying for next weekend's 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Speedway.

The 33-car field for the race at the Brickyard next Sunday was set when Mario Dominguez slammed into the wall on the final qualifying attempt, giving Roth the last spot.

Roth's four-lap speed was 215.506 miles per hour in a Dallara Honda. Dominguez had run a better time than Roger Yasukawa, but was done in by his crash.

"This is Indy," Roth told The Indianapolis Star-Tribune. "Anything can happen."

Two weekends ago, Target Chip Ganassi driver Scott Dixon captured the pole with teammate Dan Wheldon joining him on the front row.

The pole victory was Dixon's first at Indianapolis, his third pole win this season and the 11th of his IndyCar career.

The winner in 2007 was Dario Franchitti.

Report: Subpoenas for baseball players?

NEW YORK, May 18 (UPI) -- Investigators could subpoena as many as many as 104 MLB players named in court documents as having tested positive for steroids, The New York Times (NYSE:NYT) said Sunday.

The documents being held by federal prosecutors in California were meant to be confidential, the newspaper said. A lawyer, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said there are plans to question the players about positive steroid tests in 2003 and how they obtained whatever substance was found in their urine sample.

The Major League Baseball Players Association has notified prosecutors it intends to file a motion to quash the subpoenas, the newspaper said. The union claims the documents were seized illegally.

Anonymous tests from the BALCO steroid distribution case put the sport and its players union under intense public scrutiny about alleged steroid abuse.

A grand jury in San Francisco has indicted former Giants' slugger Barry Bonds for allegedly lying to investigators and MLB has conducted an extensive investigation that concluded there has been widepsread use of eprformance-enhancing drugs by MLB players.
