CHICAGO, May 18 (UPI) -- Kosuke Fukudome's RBI single in the bottom of the fifth was the difference Sunday, allowing the Chicago Cubs to edge by Pittsburgh 4-3.
He also scored on Reed Johnson's fourth-inning sacrifice fly, which gave Chicago a 3-2 advantage.
Alfonso Soriano and Ronny Cedeno also drove in one run each.
Like the Pirates, the Cubs had only four hits but won twice in the three-game series.
Winner Jason Marquis (2-3) gave up three runs -- two earned -- and four hits in six innings.
After Bob Howry and Carlos Marmol hurled scoreless seventh and eighth innings, closer Kerry Wood earned his 10th save this season.
Pittsburgh's Adam LaRoche had three RBI with a two-run homer in the first and an RBI single in the sixth.
Freddy Sanchez also had two hits for the Pirates, who have split their last four games.
Losing pitcher Phil Dumatrait (1-2) gave up four earned runs, four hits and seven walks in 4 2/3 innings.
