ROME, May 18 (UPI) -- Jelena Jankovic rolled to a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Alize Cornet in Sunday's final at the Italian Open tennis tournament in Rome.

The win completed a successful title defense by the event's fourth seed, who reached the final in a walkover when No. 2 seed Maria Sharapova could not play in Saturday's semifinal because of a left-calf injury.

The Serbian beat Russia's Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-5 6-1 in last season's final.

Sunday's was her sixth career title on the women's tennis tour and her first since winning the DFS Classic in Birmingham, England last June.

Jankovic saved nine of 12 break points and converted seven of nine break points.

Her latest title, which took about 90 minutes to obtain, was worth $196,900.

Cornet was playing in a final for the second time in her career. She lost to Flavia Pennetta in three sets in the title match at the event in Acapulco this year.
