
CHICAGO, May 14 (UPI) -- Alfonso Soriano drove in three runs and Ted Lilly struck out 11 Wednesday, bringing the Chicago Cubs an 8-5 decision over San Diego.
Soriano opened the first with a solo homer, putting the Cubs in front for good, and Lilly (4-4) lasted six innings while giving up six hits and four runs. It was his third straight win.
Geovany Soto added a two-run homer and an RBI single, helping boost the Cubs to their fifth win in six games.
Jake Peavy (4-3) took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits in four innings. Wilfredo Ledezma gave up three runs in 1 2/3 innings of relief.
Soriano singled in two runs in the second and Soto contributed his homer in the fifth to give the Cubs a 6-3 advantage.
Soriano has 46 career lead-off homers, third in the history of the majors behind Craig Biggio (53) and Rickey Henderson (81).
