BALTIMORE, May 14 (UPI) -- Jay Payton's seventh-inning grand slam homer Wednesday boosted the Baltimore Orioles to a 6-3 victory over Boston.

The Orioles trailed 3-2 when the veteran left-fielder launched his third homer this season following two-out singles by Freddie Bynum, Guillermo Quiroz and Brian Roberts. Payton also hit an RBI groundout in the bottom of the sixth and finished with five RBI.

Nick Markakis drove in one and Quiroz had two of the eight hits for the Orioles, who have won four of their last five games, including a two-game sweep of the Red Sox.

Winner Daniel Cabrera (4-1) gave up three earned runs and 10 hits in seven innings.

Closer George Sherrill earned his 15th save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.

Boston got solo homers from Jason Varitek and Mike Lowell. Dustin Pedroia also had one RBI.

Jacoby Ellsbury had three hits and three players had two hits for Boston, which has lost six of seven.

The losing pitcher was Craig Hansen (0-2).
