KANSAS CITY, Mo., May 11 (UPI) -- Brian Bannister and Joakim Soria combined on a two-hit shutout Sunday when the Kansas City Royals beat Baltimore 4-0.

KC scored on Mark Teahen's RBI single in the bottom of the second, Jose Guillen's double in the third, and an RBI groundout by Alex Gordon and Billy Butler's RBI single, both in the seventh.

Bannister (4-4) yielded two singles in eight innings with two walks and five strikeouts.

Soria hurled a 1-2-3 ninth in a non-save situation.

Four players had two hits for the Royals, who averted a four-game sweep.

Guillermo Quiroz and Luke Scott both had one hit for the Orioles, who had won three in a row. They had won their last 12 meetings with Kansas City.

Losing pitcher Brian Burres (3-4) surrendered four earned runs and nine hits in six innings.
