Nady's homer gave the Pirates a 2-0 lead in the fourth and spoiled an otherwise solid outing for the struggling Zito (0-7).

It was Zito's first start since a brief demotion to the bullpen. He gave up five hits and two runs through five innings.

Dumatrait (1-1) allowed three hits over 5 2/3 shutout innings, retiring 12 in a row at one point.

Pittsburgh took a 3-0 lead into the ninth, but with closer Matt Capps on the mound the Giants put together three straight singles and a sacrifice fly. Capps then got Jose Castillo to ground into a double play to end the game and pick up his seventh save.
