
ST. LOUIS, May 6 (UPI) -- Albert Pujols doubled and scored on a groundout to second in the ninth inning Monday, delivering the winning run for St. Louis in a 6-5 decision over Colorado.
Cardinals starter Joel Pineiro was knocked around for four runs on eight hits but countered with a two-run double. Adam Kennedy also drove in a run, while Yadier Molina tallied three hits and scored once.
The win went to Randy Flores (1-0) even though he gave up the tying run in the eighth. Jason Isringhausen shut down the Rockies in the ninth for his 11th save.
Ubaldo Jimenez gave up four runs in five innings for Colorado but the loss went to Brian Fuentes (0-2), who gave up the double to Pujols and RBI groundout to Rick Ankiel.
Colorado's Brad Hawpe homered, scored twice and drove in two runs. Chris Iannetta had three hits for the Rockies, who have lost eight of their last 10 games.
