SAN JOSE, Calif., May 3 (UPI) -- Joe Pavelski's goal 65 seconds into overtime Friday finished off a San Jose comeback and a Sharks 3-2 victory over Dallas in their Western Conference playoff.
Facing elimination for a second straight game, San Jose kept its season alive and reduced its deficit in the semifinal series to 3-2.
The series returns to Dallas Sunday for Game 6, with the Stars trying not to become the third team in NHL history to lose a best-of-seven playoff series after taking a 3-0 lead.
The Stars appeared ready to advance to a conference finals meeting with Detroit when they took a 2-0 lead after two periods.
Jere Lehtinen opened the scoring with a power-play goal at 6:14 of the second and Brenden Morrow beat Evgeni Nabokov with a wrist shot just 56 seconds from the end of the period.
San Jose finally solved Dallas goaltender Marty Turco at 6:20 of the third on a slapshot by Milan Michalek and Brian Campbell tied it with 8:53 remaining in regulation.
Nabokov made 24 saves and Turco stopped 19 shots.
