
MINNEAPOLIS, May 3 (UPI) -- Craig Monroe and Michael Cuddyer each drove in two runs Saturday to boost the Minnesota Twins to a 4-1 over the Detroit Tigers.
Cuddyer hit an RBI groundout in the bottom of the fourth inning and an RBI single in the sixth. One of Monroe's two hits was a two-run homer in the eighth.
Joe Mauer had three hits and Mike Lamb had two runs and two hits for the Twins, who have a four-game winning streak.
The winner was Brandon Bass (1-0). He allowed three hits in four scoreless innings after starter Scott Baker suffered a strained right groin in the fourth.
Joe Nathan earned his 10th save.
Detroit's run scored on Curtis Granderson's solo homer in the top of the eighth. He had two of the Tigers' six hits.
Losing pitcher Justin Verlander (1-5) gave up four earned runs and seven hits in seven innings with two walks and five strikeouts.
