MLB: Chicago Cubs 9, St. Louis 3

ST. LOUIS, May 3 (UPI) -- Mark Fontenot's three-run homer in the top of the fourth inning Saturday keyed the Chicago Cubs' 9-3 rout at St. Louis.

Chicago broke open a scoreless game by scoring six times in the inning. Fontenot's second homer this season capped the outburst. His other RBI was the result of a bases-loaded walk in the eighth.

Kusuke Fukodome had three hits and two RBI. Geovany Soto drove in two runs and Alfonso Soriano one for the Cubs, who stopped a two-game skid.

Winner Ted Lilly (2-4) surrendered three earned runs and six hits in seven innings while increasing his career strikeout total to 1,002.

St. Louis got solo homers from Yadier Molina in the fifth and Albert Pujols in the sixth.

Ryan Ludwick hit an RBI double in the fourth, while Molina had two of the six hits for the Cardinals, whose three-game winning streak ended.

Battered losing pitcher Kyle Lohse (3-1) allowed eight earned runs and nine hits in six innings.
