BATON ROUGE, La., May 2 (UPI) -- Quarterback Ryan Perrilloux, who started the SEC championship game, has been dismissed from the Louisiana State University football team.

LSU Coach Les Miles announced the decision Friday but didn't give details on why Perrilloux was taken off the team. The quarterback was suspended in February for allegedly failing to follow team rules.

"Ryan was given every opportunity to be a part of this football team," Miles said. "In the end, he didn't fulfill his obligation as an LSU student-athlete. We hope that a new beginning will benefit him.

"I wish Ryan and his family nothing but the best in any of his future endeavors."

Perrilloux, a junior, started the SEC championship game against Tennessee, helping the Tigers to a 21-14 victory that put LSU in the BCS championship game. He completed 20-of-30 passes for 243 yards and a touchdown in the game. He appeared in all 12 of LSU's games last season but generally as a backup to Matt Flynn.
